Soccer World Reacts to L.A. Galaxy's MLS Championship
David Beckham leaves the team as it wins its second consecutive cup in a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo.
In one fell swoop, the Los Angeles Galaxy claimed its second consecutive Major League Soccer title and played its final game with superstar David Beckham in the lineup. Before a record crowd of 30,510 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., the Galaxy defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-1.
The game was tied until its 65th minute, when Landon Donovan scored on a penalty kick. Omar Gonzalez took home the MLS Cup Most Valuable Player award for his dominating performance. But with Beckham’s announcement last month that he would be leaving the AEG-owned team after six seasons, much of the focus was placed on his final game.
