'La Madrastra' wins at Latino DVD Awards

Xenon Pictures' "La Madrastra" won best of show at the third annual Latino DVD Awards, presented Tuesday in West Hollywood.

"La Madrastra," a Televisa production distributed by Xenon and Vivendi Visual Entertainment, won over seven other nominees during the ceremony, presented by Home Media Magazine to honor the best Latino-themed releases of the year.

The show, about a woman wrongly incarcerated for murder who then comes back after 20 years to find the true killer, is one of the most popular telenovelas of all time. The three-disc DVD presented more than 11 hours of content, and numerous special features.

A panel of entertainment journalists and critics picked judged the contest.

More than 40 entries were submitted by suppliers, producers and distributors of Latino-related DVDs. All the DVDs were titles released in 2006.

The third annual Latino DVD Awards were part of the fourth annual Latino DVD Conference, produced by Home Media Magazine in cooperation with DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group, the Entertainment Merchants Association and The Hollywood Reporter. The awards were presented during a ceremony hosted by comedian Gabriel Iglesias and Home Media Magazine managing editor Angelique Flores at the Bel Age Hotel.
