Lady Gaga explains wacky VMA meat dress
'It was no disrespect to vegetarians,' she saysLady Gaga donned an all-meat dress to the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night, where she picked up eight moonmen statues.
"It is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth," Gaga told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview to air on Monday's season premiere of her talk show. "However, it has many interpretations. But for me -- this evening -- if we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights ... pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat."
Gaga also posed in a meat bikini on a recent cover of Japanese Vogue. DeGeneres, who is a vegan, gave Gaga a lettuce swimsuit. "I have a suggestion and this is just a suggestion next time you want to pose in a bikini somewhere," she joked.
The singer also admitted she was overwhelmed at the awards.
"I was supremely nervous in a way that I have never been nervous because I wasn't performing ... I'm not used just, like, going to except awards and get my picture taken. I don't do that," she explained. "And so much of what I stand for is really hard work and being yourself and busting your ass. It was really difficult for me. I can't let my fans down tonight because then I'm just another bitch in a dress at an award show."
Shot back DeGeneres, "You'll never just be a bitch in a dress."
Monday's issue of The Hollywood Reporter examines how the MTV show was a showcase for several anticipated fall movies, including "Burlesque" with Cher and Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg's "The Social Network," and Emma Stone and Penn Badgley's "Easy A." Many of the stars showed up in person to present awards.
