Lady Gaga Reveals 'Born This Way' Cover Art, Revisits Apartment On '60 Minutes'
Days before her '60 Minutes' interview, the singer shows her retro-chic cover art to fans in advance of a single release Friday.
Lady Gaga isn’t about to let Britney Spears grab all the headlines this week. The singer released cover art today for her anticipated forthcoming follow up to The Fame this morning. The art for Born This Way harkens back to classic record covers from the 1980s (think Missing Persons, Roxy Music or Duran Duran) or even the 1970s.
On the cover, the lady is naked: showing off back tattoos, pointy shoulders and hair that might make Ke$ha jealous and the late Farrah Fawcett proud.
Born This Way will hit online and at retail outlets May 23. The first single from the set, its title track, will be released Friday in a shrewd move to perhaps dominate conversation over Grammy weekend.
"Can't wait any longer," she said earlier today via Twitter regarding moving up the release of her single, which was set to drop Sunday.
“It has been in my heart for over a year,” she continued. “I'm so excited to share it."
Last month, the artist tweeted the lyrics of the entire song before anyone outside of her inner circle had heard the full track.
Today's artwork reveal is just one part of the singer's desire to win the news cycle all week.
Sunday, the singer will appear on CBS' 60 Minutes, where she revisits her old apartment in New York with Anderson Cooper in tow.
In a funny scene from a just-released CBS teaser, Gaga employs the oldest of New York tricks in attempt to gain entry to her former building: pressing all the buzzers in the hopes that one resident will simply buzz her in.
"We're going to do it the New York way," the New York native said. "Someone will listen."
Embarassingly, once inside the building, Gaga and Cooper were unable to persuade the resident currently living in the small studio to open the door, so Cooper and Gaga sit in a stairwell and look through an old songbook of the platinum-selling artist.
The full segment airs Sunday at 7 p.m. on CBS.
