WHY YOU SHOULD CARE NOW
The 21-year-old English actress' turn as an adulterous 19th century wife was one of the best reviewed at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival. "Pugh … has clear star quality, her heart-shaped face and aura of latent mischief recalling a young Christina Ricci," wrote THR's Stephen Dalton in his review. "She plots a confident path through a subtle performance that is mostly just below the surface, all sly glances and subversive innuendo."
HER HOLLYWOOD ROLE MODEL
Emma Stone. "I've loved watching her, from Easy A to Birdman and La La Land," Pugh tells THR. "She's always in touch with her style, and I believe everything she does."
HER DREAM COLLEAGUES
Among actors Pugh hopes to work with are Kristin Scott Thomas, Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk) and Julia Garner (Ozark). As for directors, Barry Jenkins and Lenny Abrahamson top her list.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR HER
Pugh plays female wrestling sensation Paige in Stephen Merchant's upcoming Fighting With My Family, also with Dwayne Johnson and Lena Headey. After, she'll star as Cordelia alongside Anthony Hopkins as King Lear in a BBC TV production of the Shakespeare classic.
