Lakers-Celtics a win for TNT

Biggest ratings for a cable basketball game since 2004

NEW YORK -- Thursday night's rematch between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics scored the biggest ratings for a hoops game on cable since 2004.

More than 4.3 million viewers watched TNT for the overtime game, where the Lakers revenged their loss in last year's NBA finals, 110-109. The final minute of the game was dramatic, with two successful free throws by Lamar Odom winning the game for the Lakers.

But for TNT, the victory was very sweet.

The 2.7 household rating brought with it a ton of notables, including the most-watched NBA on TNT since Feb. 2, 1996, when the Lakers played the Chicago Bulls. It was also the most-watched game on cable since Dec. 25, 2004, (Detroit Pistons-Indiana Pacers).

Needless to say, it was also the most-watched NBA game of the season, and the top program on cable in viewers and male demos. It was also quite popular in Boston and Los Angeles.
