Lamar Odom Checks in to Rehab (Report)
The NBA star enters a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center just days after being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Lamar Odom has checked in to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, People reported Wednesday, citing anonymous sources.
"He realized he needs help," one of the sources said of the former Los Angeles Clippers forward.
The news comes less than a week after Odom, 34, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. The California Highway Patrol said Friday, Aug. 30, that Odom was seen "driving in a serpentine manner at 50 mph" in a white Mercedes SUV on the 101 Freeway approaching Sepulveda Ave. When pulled over by the CHP, Odom was not able to perform a field sobriety test and "showed signs of intoxication."
He was booked without incident at the Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys jail and held on $15,000 bail. The NBA star, who earned two championship rings with the Los Angeles Lakers, has been reportedly dealing with a drug problem.
It's been a rough couple of weeks for the basketball pro and reality star. Days before his arrest, he was reportedly involved in a multicar accident with a vehicle driven by a Los Angeles Times journalist.
Meanwhile, reports of marital discord with his wife, reality star Khloe Kardashian, also have surfaced. Multiple outlets claimed she had separated from Odom reportedly over his refusal to return to rehab for drug addiction.
At one point, Odom was reportedly "missing" from his home with Kardashian.
But his agent Jeff Schwartz denied that to ESPN.
"Lamar is not missing. His wife knows exactly where he is," Schwartz said.
And on Friday, Kardashian kept a positive face amid the reports, tweeting: "Smile and no one will notice."
After spending a season with the Clippers, Odom became a free agent this summer and has yet to sign with another team.
