First Look: Ben Foster as Lance Armstrong in Stephen Frears' Biopic (Photo)

BERLIN – StudioCanal has released the first set photo from Stephen Frears’ hotly anticipated Lance Armstrong biopic.
The shot shows star Ben Foster as Armstrong, zooming past a crowd of cycling fans, apparently in mid-race at the Tour de France. Foster is wearing the Tour’s iconic yellow leader's jersey.
Frears’ film, from a script by Trainspotting writer John Hodge, traces Armstrong’s career from his successful battle against cancer through his seven Tour de France victories and the doping scandal that eventually brought him down.
Chris O'Dowd co-stars as Irish sports journalist David Walsh, one of the first people to raise questions about Armstrong's doping. Breaking Bad star Jesse Piemons and France's Guillaume Canet (Blood Ties) also have roles in the as yet untitled biopic.
Shooting started Oct. 18. StudioCanal is fully financing the project, which U.K. shingle Working Title is producing. StudioCanal also will handle international sales and release the film in France, the U.K., Germany and Australia.
Foster is making a name for himself in real-life roles. He appeared as Beat poet William Burroughs in John Krokidas’ Kill Your Darlings and stars opposite Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg’s upcoming Lone Survivor, which is based on the real-life exploits of four members of the Navy SEALs.
