A ninth season of the HBO series could finally be in the works.

It appears Curb Your Enthusiasm may be closer than ever to getting new episodes of the Larry David series that ran on HBO from 2000 to 2011.

Actor and Curb star J.B. Smoove said this week during an interview on The Rich Eisen Show that he routinely talks to David — who has been appearing on Saturday Night Live as Sen. Bernie Sanders — and about a month ago, the Seinfeld creator brought up his other show, Curb

“So I called Larry, like, two weeks ago and I said, ‘Hey, Larry man.’ I just talk about regular stuff with him. It’s not always Curb stuff. But this time — aha. This time, he brings up Curb Your Enthusiasm. I don’t ever bring it up. He brought it up this time.” Smoove told Eisen.

He added that David said he was “thinking about coming back.”

"If Larry does not say no, there’s a possibility he’s going to say yes," Smoove said. "And then he went the extra, 'If I do come back, are you going to be available?' And I said, 'You know something Larry, I'm going to be available.'"

Smoove's info is the one of the most definitive updates on the future of Curb that fans have gotten since the last season aired in 2011. HBO has long said they're open to more seasons of the show, if and when David wants to produce them. In the interim, the future of the show has become a frequent question posed to HBO execs, David, Smoove and co-star Jeff Garlin, among others. At the Television Critics Association summer press tour last year, then-HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo said that when he saw David prior to his Fish in the Dark run on Broadway, David pointed to a notebook and told Lombardo it was the next season of Curb.

"I don’t think it’s out of [Larry’s] system," he said, before adding: "I think he wants to have something to say."

More recently, former Curb showrunner David Mandel, now working on Veep, told The Hollywood Reporter during the comedy showrunners roundtable, when asked about the odds of seeing another season of Curb, "The neat thing about Larry David is actually I do believe one day he will do it. And if he picks up five years from now, it'll be really fascinating to see what Curb is like in five years."
