Larry Flynt's 6 Tips for Porn Stars
The aging Hustler impresario’s advice: Change studios, avoid agents, be professional -- and "If you don’t really enjoy sex, it’s not for you."
CHANGE STUDIOS
Make sure you don’t always work for the same studio. The pay differs depending on who you’re working for, and if you’re really talented, you’ll want to move around and let other producers and directors know you.
STAY AWAY FROM AGENTS
For people who are in legitimate acting careers, agents are good. They can help people. But if you’re in adult, and you’re interested in being in the business, the agencies tend to use you.
JUDGE YOURSELF PROPERLY
You’ve got to know that you’re attractive. And you’ve got to know that you have the desire to be able to do the job. If you don’t really enjoy sex and don’t really want to be on camera doing it, it’s not for you.

BE PROFESSIONAL
A lot of these girls are dippy. They don’t know how to be professional. But they need to be professional in the way they carry themselves, their makeup, their hair, all these kinds of things. Show up on time.
WORK THE PRESS
You really need to know how to work with the press. Most girls don’t have a clue. If you start getting a lot of notoriety as a porn star, as someone that’s on the move, and you have an opportunity to get published, which is going to make your value go up, you really need to know how to work with the press.
DON’T DO IT
I wouldn’t advise them to do it. There’s a difference between a girl that makes a movie and a girl that poses for a magazine. Most of the girls that pose for the magazine aren’t doing it for the money; they’ve got great bodies, and they’re doing it for posterity’s sake. But where the money is to be made is if they move into films, and I wouldn’t advise that. You get used up very quickly: Within three or four months, the average girl will just get used up. It just takes your soul, you know? It just takes your soul.
