Larry Wilmore Drops the N-Word at White House Correspondents' Dinner
The evening's host ended his speech in an offhand remark to President Obama, which aired on live television.
Larry Wilmore went off-the-cuff to end his speech at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner.
After several biting jokes about Donald Trump, CNN's Don Lemon and President Barack Obama himself, The Nightly Show host saved room for a quick heartfelt comment to Obama.
“When I was a kid, I lived in a country where people could not accept a black quarterback," Wilmore told him. "Now think about that, a black man was thought by his mere color not good enough to lead a football team, and now, to live in your time, Mr. President, when a black man can lead the entire free world.”
Wilmore added that words alone just don't do Obama justice, and he wanted to end the night by "keeping it 100" with a simple note about America's first black President: “Yo Barry, you did it my n—a. You did it."
His comment was picked up live by C-SPAN, which was live-streaming the whole event, as well as several networks and Twitter users who were following along.
