'Last Vegas' Ensemble Comedy Moves Up to Early November

CBS Films is moving up the release of comedy Last Vegas from Dec. 20 to Nov. 1, saying it is the perfect antidote to sci-fi epic Ender's Game, which likewise opens on Nov. 1, and Thor: The Dark World, which opens a week later.

Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline star in director Jon Turteltaub's comedy romp, about four friends who decide to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single.

Mary Steenburgen also stars in the movie, which is written by Dan Fogelman and produced by Laurence Mark and Amy Baer.

With the aging of the Baby Boomer generation, older adults are becoming a coveted moviegoing demo for Hollywood. Case in point: Adult dramas -- many of them award contenders -- have been dominating the box office in recent week.

CBS made the movie one day after 20th Century Fox pushed back the release of DreamWorks Animation's Mr. Peabody and Sherman from Nov. 1 to March 7, 2014 (thought the two films hardly go after the same audience, Sherman moving opened up a slot).

The switch also means Last Vegas won't have to compete with the Christmas crush of films.
