Laura Benanti Signs With CAA
Laura Benanti has signed with CAA, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The decorated musical theater star won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards in 2008 for playing Gypsy Rose Lee in Gypsy, opposite Patti LuPone. Three years later she received another featured actress Tony nomination and a pair of Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle wins for her role in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, based on the Pedro Almodovar film, again opposite LuPone. She had previously earned Tony nominations her performances in the 2002 revival of Into the Woods (where she played Cinderella) and the 2000 musical Swing!
Benanti, whose Broadway credits also include the musical adaptation of The Wedding Singer and the 2003 revival of Nine with Antonio Banderas, appeared on stage last month in the New York City Center’s Encores! presentation of The Most Happy Fella, starring opposite Cheyenne Jackson and Shuler Hensley.
Benanti made her Broadway debut at the age of 18 in the 1998 revival of The Sound of Music, where she served as understudy and eventual replacement to Rebecca Luker’s Maria. Coincidentally, she became known to a much wider audience last December for her praised turn as Elsa Schrader in NBC’s live Sound of Music special. She previously starred opposite Matthew Perry in the network’s Go On and The Playboy Club. Her other TV credits include Nurse Jackie, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and The Good Wife.
Benanti continues to be repped by Emily Gerson Saines at Brookside Artist Management.
