Laura Michelle Kelly Goes Down Under to Become a 'Goddess'
The British Mary Poppins actress will star in the Sydney-based musical comedy.
SYDNEY -- British actor, Laura Michelle Kelly, currently starring as Mary Poppins on Broadway is taking a break from the show, to film Aussie musical romantic comedy, Goddess, in Sydney.
Production on the feature, with Irish singer-songwriter and X Factor Australia judge Ronan Keating, and Aussie comedian Magda Szubanski starring opposite Kelly got underway Monday at Fox Studios Monday.
Kelly is Elspeth Dickens, the mother of naughty twin boys, who, after installing a webcam in her kitchen, becomes an Internet sensation when her funny sync-songs go viral. While her husband James (Keating) is off saving the world’s whales, Elspeth is offered the chance of a lifetime.
But when forced to choose between fame and family, the newly-anointed internet goddess almost loses it all.
Mark Lamprell will direct Goddess from a screenplay by Joanna Weinberg and Lamprell, with Happy Feet co-director Judy Morris as the film’s musical director.
It is being co-produced by Richard Keddie and Andrena Finlay through their respective shingles, The Film Company and Wildheart Films.
“Goddess is a wonderful fairy tale, which I hope will resonate with audiences around the world,” Lamprell said.
Roadshow Films is distributing locally with a planned release in 2012.
