A fundraiser for Lauren Scruggs, the 23-year-old model who lost both her left eye and hand after accidentally walking into a still-moving plane propeller, raised over $10,000 Tuesday night.
The event, held in Plano, TX, where Scruggs, who once served as an intern in the Gossip Girl wardrobe department, as well as the Michael Kors showroom, is originally from.
LeeAnne Locker who served as the fundraiser's master of ceremonies said at the beginning of proceedings, "Tonight is about celebrating: It is about celebrating that Lauren Scruggs is going to come back ten times stronger than she was before this accident," reports Radar Online.
Scruggs underwent reconstructive surgeries on her face and shoulder immediately following the accident and her left hand was amputated. Her left eye was removed Dec. 14. The founder of the fashion blog Lolo, Scrugg's family created a CaringBridge web page for her and have been providing updates on her condition.
Her mother, Cheryl Scruggs wrote on Monday, Dec. 26 that her daughter "is making remarkable strides! She is talking of what happened, and very quickly recognizes that God has purpose for it all. She wants to use it for Him, and use it boldly to glorify Him."
She added, "She slept for 13 hours straight last night without waking up except to get her meds! Her spirit is incredible. She's positive, hungry and cheery!. Her appetite is very healthy, even though she is still taking lots of pain medication."
