'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' renewed
USA Network picks up procedural for eighth seasonUSA Network has renewed "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" for an eighth season.
The cable network has ordered 16 episodes from the Wolf Films/NBCU Cable Studio series, which will continue to get a second window on NBC.
After six seasons on NBC, "L&O: CI" migrated to USA a year ago as part of an eleventh-hour renewal for the procedural drama.
"We not only forged new ground with its launch on USA last October, but we also succeeded in delivering to our viewers some of the finest writing and acting on television," said Bonnie Hammer, president of NBCU Cable Entertainment & Cable Studio.
"L&O: CI" was the top drama series in basic cable primetime for the fourth quarter, more than doubling USA's audience in the 10 p.m. Thursday slot from the same period the previous year.
" 'Criminal Intent' has thrived in its new home on USA and will for years to come," Dick Wolf said.
The series' core cast -- Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, Chris Noth, Julianne Nicholson and Eric Bogosian -- are set to return next season.
Meanwhile, the second part of the "L&O: CI" seventh season premieres June 8 on USA.
