Longtime Law & Order franchise writer-producer Rene Balcer has signed with CAA. He was previously with UTA.

Balcer is best known for his work on the Dick Wolf-created series, for which he won a best drama Emmy in 1997 as one of the flagship show’s executive producers. A writer for the long-running drama since its inaugural season in 1991, he was head writer and showrunner for many of its 20 seasons. In 2001, he created the Vincent D’Onofrio-fronted Law & Order: Criminal Intent and stayed with the spinoff as showrunner for the first half of its eventual 10-season run.

Balcer is currently writing the script for Starz’s period FBI drama WonderWorld (executive produced by Owen Wilson and Fred Berner). He also has two other projects in active development: DarkNet for Kapital Entertainment, and an untitled television project with China Media Capital (Shanghai).

Balcer also is repped by Brillstein and Rohner Walerstein.
