This Beauty Executive Is Changing the Trench Coat Game
Le Trench marks longtime Dior Beauty publicist Dianne Vavra's first foray into fashion — and Hollywood is taking notice of her designs
As the senior VP of press and celebrity relations at Dior Beauty, Dianne Vavra knows a thing or two about looking flawless. Fans of Bill Cunningham's street style shots in The New York Times will recognize the New Yorker and mom of two as a regular subject of his photos. So it was no surprise when, in 2012, the lensman chased her down to ask her the story behind her newly acquired vintage coat — a piece that has since become the inspiration for Le Trench, Vavra's elegant line of versatile day-to-night trench coats.

"When I first spotted the leopard coat at the vintage shop in Paris, I knew I was on to something. It was such a simple cut, yet immediately made me feel like I was French when I put it on, especially when I popped the collar," explains Vavra, who has worked with Dior Beauty for 17 years. And Cunningham wasn't the only one who singled out her outerwear: On the same day that he inquired about the coat, a Barneys buyer also approached Vavra about the coveted find.
It took two years for Vavra to figure out how to reinvent the piece, which has already been worn by the likes of Sharon Stone, Abigail Spencer (pictured above), Lena Dunham and Emmy Rossum. Currently, the season's newest must-have is available online for $495, and in stores at Lynn Stoller Collection in the Hamptons and Switch in Los Angeles. The Le Trench coat will be released in a new colorway each season, and leopard is in the works, natch.
