'League' Star Katie Aselton Joins Matthew McConaughey in 'Sea of Trees' (Exclusive)
Gus van Sant is directing the indie drama whose script was on the 2013 Black List
Katie Aselton, the female star of FX's comedy The League, is joining Gus Van Sant's drama Sea of Trees.
Matthew McConaughey and Ken Watanabe are starring in the indie, which tells of an American man (McConaughey) and a Japanese man (Watanabe) who meet in Japan's infamous "Suicide Forest," where people go to commit suicide. But instead of killing themselves, the duo embark on a reflective journey through the forest together.
Asleton will play a woman who has an affair with McConaughey's character.
Naomi Watts is already cast as McConaughey’s wife in the Chris Sparling-written project.
Trees is the first title from Bloom, the new sales company launched May 13 by veteran foreign sales agent Alex Walton and Ken Kao.
Aselton, whose League will premiere its sixth season Sept. 3, has feature credits that include the indie thriller Black Rock and comedy Our Idiot Brother.
She is repped by ICM Partners and Untitled Entertainment.
