LeBron James’ uncertain NBA future is already a hot topic on social media, but the interest is also surging on Google. In fact, there are more searches for the former Miami Heat star now than during any week of the NBA’s regular season, according to Google Trends data obtained by The Wall Street Journal.

And ESPN’s much-maligned choice to devote an hourlong special to James’ 2010 decision to take his "talents to South Beach” may not have been such a bad move as far as Google is concerned, as the public’s obsession with James between Jan. 4, 2004, and Saturday peaked during that period, according to Google Trends.

Fellow NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony is also seeing a surge in searches this month, as the former New York Knicks small forward is considering where to play next season. His searches also surged in February 2011 when he was traded to the Knicks.

Meanwhile, San Antonio Spurs vet Tim Duncan, who has played for the same team for his entire 17-year career, saw a jump in search traffic during the Spurs’ last two appearances in the NBA Finals, but the interest wasn’t as high as it is for James' and Anthony’s next moves.
