Lena Dunham took to Instagram Friday to show off her new platinum hair and bowl cut, with the caption "change is good."
According to W magazine, which got a behind-the-scenes look at Dunham's mod hairdo, the actress opted for lighter locks and shorter tresses less than a day after wrapping the fourth season of her HBO show, Girls.
“We like to try new strange identities; we like it to be odd and funny and reference something,” Dunham told W, speaking of her longtime hairstylist, Rheanne White, who also was responsible for the starlet’s 2012 pixie cut. “Rheanne and I had this idea of like a sixties Vidal Sassoon-y cut and we felt that making it blonde would take it to the next level.”
Colorist Tanner Bassett oversaw Dunham’s platinum transformation — a move inspired, in part, by Dunham’s upcoming book tour for Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s "Learned," which drops Sept. 30. “I really want people to feel that the character on the show [Girls] isn’t the person who wrote the book,” Dunham told W.
Dunham was nominated for an Emmy for her leading role in Girls; we look forward to seeing the actress and her new 'do at the Aug. 25 awards show.
