2014 New York Film Festival Poster Designed by Lena Dunham's Mother
UPDATED: Laurie Simmons created the artwork for this fall's festival, set to run from Sept. 26 to Oct. 12.
It's not even officially summer, but the poster for this fall's New York Film Festival has already arrived.
The poster was designed by artist Laurie Simmons, also known as Lena Dunham's mother, who stages photographs and films with paper dolls, finger puppets, ventriloquist dummies and costumed dancers.
She joins an illustrious group of artists who've commissioned work for the festival including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Julian Schnabel, Cindy Sherman and Saul Bass, whose 1964 NYFF poster has been featured prominently on Mad Men.

Simmons' poster, shown here, features a set of white stairs atop a pair of legs.
Simmons' work has been collected by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney, the Guggenheim, L.A.'s Museum of Contemporary Art and the Tate Modern in London.
Simmons also made her first film, The Music of Regret, in 2006. She's currently working on the feature My Art.
The 52nd annual New York Film Festival runs from Sept. 26-Oct. 12.
