Over 100,000 people were expected at the NYC event

Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Edward Norton joined thousands of people Sunday at an NYC march to draw attention to climate change.

Crowds gathered Sunday morning in midtown Manhattan for the People's Climate Change march, billed as the largest such protest in five years. Similar events were planned on the same day in other major cities around the world, including London, where Emma Thompson participated.

Al Gore, NYC mayor Bill de Blasio, UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon, Sting and Evangeline Lilly also participated in the NYC march, according to Gawker.

The event comes as world leaders are set to gather Tuesday for a United Nations summit on climate.
