Jones’ Ghostbusters director Paul Feig welcomed her return to social media, tweeting “You are the greatest, Ms. Jones. Simply the greatest. #LeslieJonesRules.” Feig helped spark #LoveforLeslieJ as a trending topic on the site after he tweeted a message standing up for the actress in response to the large amount of internet attacks towards her in July.
Jones even answered Twitter questions from fans throughout Sunday morning. She called Beyonce the “modern day Tina Turner," answered that the perfect gift she could receive on her birthday is “strong weed" and tweeted, "WTF?" at a Cinnamon Toast Crunch commercial. It's been a bumpy love-hate relationship between Jones and Twitter since she was criticized with racist tweets from many users after the female ensemble of Ghostbusters opened in July. Jones shared her distress, which later involved Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who suspended user and Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos from the site for sending hateful messages to the star.
Jones later returned to Twitter to live-tweet the 2016 Rio Olympics, which had a positive streak until her website was hacked, displaying nude photos and her driver's license and passport info and prompting her to leave the social media site. Patricia Arquette, Octavia Spencer, Jay Pharoah and even Clinton tweeted their support for Jones during the incident. She's now back under her original twitter handle @Lesdoggg and even tweeted back at Clinton supporting the Democratic presidential nominee.
