Lighthearted Entertainment Promotes 5, Firms Up Leadership
Jeff Spangler, a nine-year company veteran, will run the company behind 'Are You the One?' and 'Dating Naked' alongside Rob LaPlante following the death of founder Howard Schultz.
Lighthearted Entertainment, which produces such shows as VH1's Dating Naked and MTV's Are You the One, has promoted five staffers on the heels of founder Howard Schultz's death.
Jeff Spangler, a nine-year company veteran, has been named executive vp, running the company alongside exec vp Rob LaPlante. Before his death, Schultz had announced the duo as co-owners and partners in the company. They will continue to oversee the day-to-day business and productions of Lighthearted, whose other credits include VH1's Bye Felicia and Twinning, the latter of which is in production. Dating Naked was recently renewed for a second season, as was Are You the One?
"Jeff Spangler's expertise lies in all aspects of television, ranging from development to casting, producing and post production," said LaPlante. "I am proud to call him my partner and excited to continue carrying on the Lighthearted tradition with him by my side."
In addition, Annie Meek has been upped to vp production, Michael Newstat as vp postproduction and Megan McGrath and Patty Suh as director of development.
Lighthearted CEO Schultz died last last month on vacation with his family in Maui, Hawaii. He founded the company 23 years ago.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday at the JW Marriot (LA Live) from 3-7 p.m.
