Lil Wayne 'How to Love' Video Debuts (Video)
The song, off his upcoming ninth album, chronicles the life of a troubled woman.
Lil Wayne debuted the video for his single “How to Love” on Wednesday. A ton of dramatic events are packed into the five-minute video, including a visit to an abortion clinic, domestic abuse, an HIV diagnosis and a stripper’s troubled night job.
The song, off Lil Wayne’s upcoming ninth album, Tha Carter IV, describes a woman who never learned how to love. "You had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart, never really had luck, could never figure out how to love,” go the lyrics.
The video clearly shows that this woman had a troubling upbringing with parents who fought and a dad who was in jail. She grows up into a stripper, whose activities lead her to a sad fate. But, the video also explores what would have happened if her life had gone in a very different direction. Lil Wayne is almost in the background of his own video, singing all his lyrics from one scene in a tunnel.
The song’s producer, Detail, told MTV that the new video would shock viewers. "Wayne wrote every scene: He told me scene by scene by scene," the producer said.
It was recently announced that Lil Wayne will release his album digitally at midnight on Aug. 29, after her performs at MTV’s Video Music Awards on the 28th. He’s also nominated for two awards.
His previous album, Tha Carter III, was the best-selling album of 2008.
