Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sony Partner for Animated Musical 'Vivo'
Quiara Alegría Hudes, who wrote the book for Miranda's musical 'In the Heights,' penned the feature.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is partnering with Sony Pictures Animation for Vivo, which centers on a musically inclined capuchin monkey as he makes the treacherous journey from Havana to Miami to fulfill his destiny.
Miranda has written and composed 11 songs for the animated feature, a passion project for the Tony winner.
Quiara Alegría Hudes, who wrote the book for Miranda's musical In the Heights, penned the feature. Hudes also won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for drama for her play Water by the Spoonful.
The Croods helmer Kirk De Micco is set to direct, with Lisa Stewart (Monsters vs. Aliens) producing and Lawrence Mark acting as executive producer.
Kristine Belson will spearhead the project for the studio, having been named president of Sony Pictures' animation arm nearly a year ago. Senior vp creative affairs Mike Moon also will shepherd the feature.
Vivo is set to hit theaters Dec. 18, 2020.
Miranda is currently sitting on top of both the Billboard charts and the box office with the recent release of his Hamilton Mixtape and the massively popular Disney animation Moana, which features original music from the Tony winner.
Miranda is proving to be one of Hollywood's most in-demand creative forces. He is set to compose and produce the Kingkiller Chronicle series for Lionsgate and Disney's The Little Mermaid. He also is set to star opposite Emily Blunt in Mary Poppins Returns.
