Lionsgate Eyes More Content Sales to Digital Platforms
Agapy Kapouranis' promotion comes as the studio looks to license more content to SVODs after launching digital platforms with Comic-Con and Tribeca Enterprises.
After launching upstart SVODs with Comic-Con and Tribeca Enterprises, Lionsgate is driving toward expanding SVOD players worldwide with its latest executive promotion.
The studio on Tuesday said Agapy Kapouranis has been upped to the newly created position of executive vp global subscription video on demand, with an eye to licensing more content to streaming services worldwide.
Kapouranis, based in Santa Monica, will target SVOD platforms on a global or market-by-market basis. Creating content for streaming platforms has become a priority for Lionsgate since Netflix struck gold with Orange Is the New Black and the studio started developing series with Amazon and teamed to release Woody Allen's Cafe Society after Cannes.
"Agapy is an innovative television and digital distribution executive and a skilled decision-maker with a deep understanding of local international markets and global SVOD deals,” said Lionsgate president of worldwide television & digital distribution Jim Packer in a statement.
"She is part of an international distribution team of experienced, digitally fluent and forward-thinking executives who position us to evolve with our markets and capitalize on tremendous opportunities in the SVOD and digital space around the world," he added.
Kapouranis most recently served as senior vp television & digital distribution, managing the North American subscription streaming market.
She joined Lionsgate in May 2011 from MGM Studios.
