Lionsgate Promotes Thomas Hughes for VOD and Digital Growth
The move comes as Lionsgate continues to convert ongoing rights to movies and TV shows in ancillary markets.
TORONTO – As a steadily diversifying Lionsgate continues to bolster its VOD and digital divisions, Thomas Hughes has been promoted to executive vp of worldwide digital distribution.
Hughes will work closely with Lionsgate international TV exec Peter Iacono to grow the mini-studio's digital and VOD markets internationally.
That strategy comes as Lionsgate takes advantage of proliferating digital platforms to move beyond the theatrical film and TV arenas for additional revenues.
Hughes was key to Lionsgate recently licensing content to Comcast, and negotiated expanded global content licensing deals with with iTunes, Amazon and Xbox.
Those deals come as Lionsgate continues to convert ongoing rights to movies and TV shows into digital revenue.
"Our licensing of film and television content to digital and on demand platforms around the world is an area of explosive growth, and Thomas will help spearhead our team's initiatives in capitalizing on emerging opportunities throughout the global marketplace," said Jim Packer, Lionsgate president of worldwide television and digital distribution, in a statement on Wednesday.
Hughes previously served as Lionsgate's senior vp of worldwide digital.
