Lionsgate UK to Distribute Summit Titles
Lionsgate UK already handles Lionsgate, third party and locally-produced films
Just weeks after revealing that it had moved its international sales headquarters to London following overseas expansion, Lionsgate has announced that its U.K. arm will look after distribution of all films under its Summit subsidiary and will integrate them with the Lionsgate, third-party and locally-produced films it already distributes.
The new move will see Lionsgate UK oversee distribution of upcoming titles including the fourth film in the Divergent series, Allegiant Part 2, which is due for release in 2017.
"We’re delighted to bring the distribution of our diverse portfolio of films under one roof, increasing our operating efficiencies, unifying our strategic focus and giving us greater control over our content," Lionsgate UK CEO Zygi Kamasa said in a statement. "Assuming responsibility of our Summit titles continues to enhance the critical mass of product we offer to our audiences and our buyers."
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that the mini-studio's UK outpost had become a "vibrant and diversified company" and that the expansion of its distribution business enabled opportunities for further growth in that area.
"Combined with the recent relocation of our international sales operations to London, we are bringing significantly more content, resources and executive manpower to focus on our European markets," he said.
Summit titles in the UK were previously distributed by eOne Entertainment, who last week announced they were expanding their partnership with Lionsgate in Canada, Spain and Australia.
In April of this year, Lionsgate combined its marketing operations with that of Summit, which it purchased in 2012, with Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen overseeing all titles.
