Lionsgate U.K. Firms up Details on Icon Distribution Deal in U.K.
Canadian-owned distribution and production banner will handle theatrical releases for Icon.
LONDON -- Lionsgate U.K. CEO Zygi Kamasa and the Canadian-owned distributor and production label’s COO Guy Avshalom firmed up more details about the freshly-struck pact with Icon Film Distribution in the U.K. marketplace.
Lionsgate U.K. confirmed it will handle the release of Icon’s theatrial titles “moving forward.”
Icon Group U.K. said Tuesday it has sealed a distribution partnerhship with Lionsgate to do just that.
Avshalom said Lionsgate would work with newly-hired Icon CEO Aviv Giladi and said Icon’s titles such as Adam Wingard’s Toronto hit You’re Next and the long-awaited big screen adaptation of pre-school cartoon hit Postman Pat: The Movie will expand its theatrical slate.
Lionsgate U.K’s deals include taking on the home entertainment rights for both the Miramax and Nu Image libraries, actively producing British films and supporting local productions as well as being one of the first companies to partner with Netflix in the U.K.
Lionsgate U.K. recently started production on Keith Lemon: The Film, is co-producing the Colin Firth starrer The Railway Man and exec producing Mike Newell’s Great Expectations.
Lionsgate U.K.’s upcoming theatrical slate includes Lasse Hallström’s Salmon Fishing in the Yemen starring Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor and Kristin Scott Thomas which Lionsgate co-produced with BBC Films and Kudos Film and Television.
