Lionsgate's Mike Polydoros to Receive ShowEast's Al Shapiro Distinguished Service Award
The honor will be presented at the exhibitors convention's Final Night Awards Ceremony on Oct. 24.
Mike Polydoros, executive vp distribution operations at Lionsgate, will be the recipient the 2013 Al Shapiro Distinguished Service Award at ShowEast, the exhibitors convention that takes place at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Fla., from Oct. 21-24.
The award, named for the late Al Shapiro, honors a film industry executive who displays “dedication, care and concern for the betterment of the motion picture industry.”
Polydoros, whose duties include overseeing digital cinema and exhibitor relations, joined Lionsgate as part of its merger with Artisan in 2003 and has been involved with the release of such films as The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2, the Saw franchise and Crash, as well as the upcoming Ender’s Game and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He began his career in 1978, working for United Artists theaters at the Egyptian Theatre as an usher.
He is a member of the board of directors for the Will Rogers charities and also supports Variety Children’s Charity and various other fund-raising events.
“I can’t think of a more deserving individual in our industry to receive this award than Mike,” ShowEast co-managing director Andrew Sunshine said. “Mike is a strong leader within his company, and his enthusiasm for the film industry has a powerful impact on everything he accomplishes.”
The award presentation will take place at the Oct. 24 Final Night Awards Ceremony, hosted by The Coca-Cola Co.
ShowEast is produced by Prometheus Global Media, which also is the parent company of The Hollywood Reporter.
