Lisa Kudrow to Host Webby Awards
NEW YORK - Lisa Kudrow, star of online series Web Therapy, will host the 15th annual Webby Awards next month.
The event, which honors excellence on the Internet, is set to be held at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom on June 13.
Kudrow herself is being honored with a Webby this year for "best individual performance in an online video” for Web Therapy, which also picked up the award for “best comedy: long form” for the second straight year.
The show was recently picked up by Showtime and will debut on the network in July.
“Lisa Kudrow has really embraced online entertainment, using her iconic style and sense of humor to create Web Therapy, one of the funniest web series today,” said David-Michel Davies, executive director of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), which hands out the Webbys.
The organization on Thursday also announced two special achievement awards. Groupon, the deal-of-the-day site, will be honored as the Webby Breakout of the Year. And Red Burns, founder of New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, will be presented with an award recognizing "her lifelong commitment to fostering many of the young minds who paved the way for today's thriving media world," the organization said.
In partnership with Facebook, this year’s ceremony will be broadcast live on the Webbys' Facebook page, as well as on partner pages, including The Huffington Post, Martha Stewart and others.
Acceptance speeches at the Webbys have a five-word limit.
