Locarno fest jury replete with international flavor

Paolo Sorrentino, fresh off winning the Jury Prize at the Festival de Cannes for his film "Il Divo," will be a member of the main competition jury for the 61st Locarno Film Festival.

Also on the jury are Mexican producer Bertha Navarro and Japan's Masahiro Kobayashi, who took Locarno's top prize in 2007 for "The Rebirth."

The trio will be joined during the Aug. 6-16 festival by Swiss director Dani Levy, a one-time Berlin Golden Bear nominee and now a top director of Swiss comedies.

Signing on to the jury was the first major move for the Naples-based Sorrentino since he became one of the toasts of the Italian cinema scene for his Cannes prize, which came during his third appearance there.

Navarro is best known as the regular producer for Guillermo del Toro, while Kobayashi, a cult favorite, surprised critics in Locarno by taking home the Golden Leopard prize last year. The lineup for Locarno's 20-film competition slate will be announced July 17. (partialdiff)
