Los Angeles Area Emmys Announce 2012 Nominees, Governors Award Recipient

With the Los Angeles Area Emmys little more than a month away, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced this year's nominees and the individual who'll receive the Governors Award.

Academy chairman Bruce Rosenblum announced that producer-director Susan Stratton, a 27-year veteran of KCAL, will take the honor this year -- for her work broadcasting the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Long before I began working in the television business, I knew Susan's name having heard the legendary Chick Hearn frequently praise her during his Lakers broadcasts," said Rosenblum of the first woman television producer and director for a professional U.S. sports franchise. "Susan's producing excellence, professionalism and incredible contributions over her years of service to both KCAL and the Southern California sports community have been both numerous and exemplary and make her a very deserving recipient of this year's Governors Award."

Prior to this latest honor, Stratton has received the Women in Film Crystal Award and has been inducted into the Southern California Sportscasters Hall of Fame. She'll accept her latest accolade at the 64th annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards when they take place on Aug. 11 at the Television Academy's Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre.

Stratton will be joined by the latest crop of nominees at the event, also announced today. Of the 123 nominations in 42 categories, NBC affiliate NBC4 tops all other local networks with 20 nominations, followed by KTLA5 (14), ABC7 and CBS2 (13) and KCET (10).
