Three Los Angeles TV Stations Each Win 7 Local Emmys
KABC, KTLA and KNBC share top honors, with KNBC winning for best morning, daytime and evening local newscasts. The Governor’s Award was presented to longtime L.A. Lakers producer Susan Stratton.
KABC, KTLA and KNBC each won seven Emmys on Saturday evening at the 64th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, which were presented in the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood.
KNBC swept the prestigious categories for best newscasts winning for regularly scheduled daily newscasts in the morning (4 am to 11 am), daytime (11 am to 7 pm) and evening (7 pm to midnight).
NBC4, as the station is best known, also won for best entertainment programming, wining honors for Chuck Henry, executive producer and host, and Kristin Arntz, producer. NBC also won an Emmy for Live coverage of an Unscheduled News event for coverage of the Seal Beach Massacre and for a News Special on The Death of Osama Bin Laden.

The Los Angeles Area Governors Award was presented to Susan Stratton, who was cited for being “a trailblazer for women in the television industry.”
In announcing the honor for Stratton, the Academy said, “For 27 years after KCAL first signed a deal to broadcast the Los Angeles Lakers, Susan Stratton was the woman in charge of bringing the telecast into the homes of Southern California. She broke down barriers in the industry by being the first woman television producer and director for a professional sports franchise in the United States.”
“Long before I began working in the television business, I knew Susan's name having heard the legendary Chick Hearn frequently praise her during his Lakers broadcasts," said Television Academy Chairman Bruce Rosenblum.

ABC7 also won for investigative reporting for Serial Plaintiffs, with Emmys going to producer Lisa Bartley, anchor Marc Brown, camera Keith Dabney and editor Martin Liem.
KTLA was honored for having the best multi-part serious news story, for The Gang Behind The Badge, reported by Carolyn Costello and edited by Justin Mashouf. KTLA also won for Live Special Events for its coverage of the Royal Wedding.
