Lucas marketing maven at Discovery Communications

Discovery Communications has named network marketing veteran Wonya Lucas its chief marketing officer.

Lucas, who held senior positions at the Weather Channel and Turner Broadcasting, will be based at Discovery's global headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., and report to COO Mark Hollinger. She will be responsible for strengthening Discovery's brands and leveraging the company's assets to increase awareness and expand the networks' worldwide viewer base, Discovery said. Lucas starts March 24.

Lucas most recently was GM and executive vp at the Weather Channel, where she was responsible for corporate strategy and development, strategic marketing. Before joining the Weather Channel in 2002 as executive vp marketing, Lucas was at Turner Broadcasting System, where she held several positions, including senior vp strategic marketing at CNN Networks and vp business operations and network development at TBS, TNT, Turner Classic Movies and Turner South.
