Luke Perry to Star in Two More 'Goodnight for Justice' Movies for Hallmark Movie Channel (Exclusive)
The Western gave the network its best ratings ever in its January debut; two sequels go into production starting next month.
Luke Perry is back in business with Hallmark Movie Channel.
The cable network is expected to announce Wednesday during its session at the Television Critics Association press tour that it has greenlighted two more Goodnight for Justice movies.
Perry stars as Judge John Goodnight, a character he created He also serves as executive producer.
In the second film, Goodnight crosses paths with a stagecoach under attack and comes to the rescue of its passengers, one of whom is a beautiful woman who may or may not have been a prisoner being transported by a detective who did not survive the attack. Their journey together takes them to a gambling riverboat, where Goodnight discovers her true identity.
The first movie reunited Perry with his former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Jason Priestley, who directed, but scheduling conflicts prevented Priestley from directing the two news films in the franchise.
Goodnight for Justice 2 is set to go into production in August for an early 2012 premiere. The third film starts production in September with a yet-to-be-determined premiere date.
The first movie is Hallmark Movie Channel's highest-rated film of all time. It earned a 1.6 rating in its Jan. 29 premiere, ranking as No. 4 out of all cable programs for the night, and has helped fuel the network's big viewership growth among total day (106% spike between May 2010 and May 2011) and primetime (107%).
