Lululemon Seeks CEO With 'Third Eye to Channel Innovation'
The yoga-wear retailer posts a humorous ad for a new leader.
While some companies search for new executives covertly, using headhunters, yoga-wear retailer Lululemon is taking a more transparent approach.
Searching for a replacement for CEO Christine Day, who is resigning after the company was forced to recall pants that were said to be too sheer, Lululemon posted a giant ad for a new CEO on its website and Facebook page.
The humorous listing describes the job as follows: "You report to no one, you are the CEO (duh)." It indicates that candidates should be passionate about "being the head boss person."
The rest of the ad consists of yoga jokes, saying that you should be able to hold a headstand for 10 minutes, "get your OM-on (loudly) whenever the urge arises" and "use your third eye to channel innovation."
The ad says the CEO will use a Bachelor-like process for promotions among senior leadership.
A prospective Lululemon CEO also needs to be well-connected, with "Bill Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey on speed dial," the ad instructs.
Finally, to head up the exercise-wear retailer, it's imperative that "you own yoga," the ad states.
Despite its joking tone, clicking on the link to "apply online" takes you to a page where you can enter your resume, personal info and attachments to be considered for the job. A company spokeswoman told the Associated Press there have been 160 replies to the ad.
RBC Capital analyst Howard Tubin told the AP that the ad is consistent with the brand's strategy.
"It's in keeping with the fun and irreverent way they like to approach their business," he said. "It's a quirky way of them addressing the situation."
