Dress du Jour: Lupita Nyong'o Shines in Gold Valentino Couture
The "12 Years a Slave" actress, in a dress by the Italian fashion house, joined fellow Oscar nominees Leonardo DiCaprio and Jared Leto at The Hollywood Reporter's Nominees Night on Monday.
The Dress: A gold Valentino fall 2013 couture gown, styled with a sparkly clutch and bejeweled heels.
The Wearer: Fashion (and film) "it" girl Lupita Nyong'o, who is nominated for a best supporting actress Oscar for 12 Years a Slave, was a total showstopper in the luxe Italian label -- which has been facing controversy this week after sending a celebrity placement press release surrounding pieces worn at Philip Seymour Hoffman's funeral.
The Event: The Hollywood Reporter's annual Nominees Night, where Oscar hopefuls Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gravity's Alfonso Cuaron, American Hustle's David O. Russell, Nebraska's Bruce Dern, Captain Phillips' Barkhad Abdi, and Before Midnight's Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy celebrated at Beverly Hills' famed Spago on Monday night.
Why We Dig: From the red Ralph Lauren caped number at this year's Golden Globes to the turquoise Gucci gown from the 2014 SAG Awards (with a touch of colorful eye makeup), Nyong'o continues to stand out on the red carpet, especially at THR's Nominees Night. The gold satin dress, featuring a low neckline and spaghetti strap details, was a classic touch for the evening soiree. Not only does the actress rule on the red carpet, she's also a bit of a dancing queen. During CeeLo Green's lively performance, Nyong'o was spotted dancing up a storm and jamming out to the singer-songwriter's tunes. Clearly a fan, she posted a photo of the performer on her own Instagram, writing the caption: "East or West, #CeeLoGreen live is best. @hollywoodreporter @AcademyAwards Nominee party."
We can hardly wait to see how Nyong'o's stylist, Micaela Erlanger, will style her Oscar outfit, but in the mean time, it sounds like the actress already has an idea of what accessory she'd like to wear on March 2. "I'm asking Pharrell [Williams] if I can borrow his hat for the #Oscars," Nyong'o told us at the soiree. A Twitter for @lupitahat? Consider it done.
