M-Go Strikes Content Deal With Starz Digital, Launches in Beta Mode
The digital content service joint venture of DreamWorks Animation and Technicolor provides a pay-as-you-go streaming offer.
Digital content service M-Go, a joint venture of DreamWorks Animation and Technicolor, has struck a content licensing deal with Starz Digital and launched in beta mode.
The beta launch means people in the U.S. can sign up for M-Go.
The latest content deal, financial details of which weren't disclosed, follows similar agreements with other big Hollywood players, including DWA, NBCUniversal's film unit, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and Relativity Media.
The latest arrangement will provide M-Go users access to such Starz content as Spartacus.
M-Go was originally scheduled to launch by year's end and allows consumers to easily rent or purchase new releases and catalog films on any device or platform. It promises "the people-friendliest" service and "day and date new release films, catch up television and back catalog film and TV shows."
Its pay-as-you-go streaming service helps people find, rent and buy digital entertainment on such devices as TV sets, iPads, other tablets, Blu-ray players, streaming players, Macs, PCs and, soon, game consoles and smartphones.
M-Go also said Friday that if it doesn’t have the content that a user is looking for, it will help people find it on other media stores, including Amazon.com, iTunes, Netflix and Vudu.
“The unfulfilled promise of "Entertainment Everywhere" for years has left many wondering if they can get entertainment anywhere," said M-Go CEO John Batter. "Despite advances in technology and tons of film and TV choices, it still takes more effort than it should to find something satisfying to watch when and how consumers want it. Consumers have become used to cobbling their entertainment options together in order to get a slightly satisfying experience - switching from DVRs to subscription services to cable to media stores take time and effort, which takes away from the ability to just sit back and enjoy."
