Macallister joins BBC Worldwide
EmptyLONDON -- BBC Worldwide has lured Buena Vista International Television Asia Pacific distribution head Steve Macallister to be its new managing director of global television sales, the commercial division's CEO John Smith said Tuesday. Macallister, who takes up his post in July, replaces Mark Young, who left this year to join IMG.
Reporting to Smith, Macallister will sit on the board of the BBC's commercial arm and be responsible for the global exploitation of more than 40,000 hours of programming from Worldwide's catalog. He also will manage BBC Worldwide's annual sales event, the BBC Showcase.
At Buena Vista, Macallister expanded the studio's business in the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe by pioneering barter deals in the region before moving to Hong Kong to become regional head of sales. In 2004, he was appointed senior vp and managing director of BVITV-AP.
"I'm delighted to welcome someone of Steve's caliber to manage the global TV sales business and to join the BBC Worldwide board," Smith said. "Steve's achievements in program distribution, which remains a core part of our business, will be invaluable to Worldwide as we grow and develop over the next few years."
