'Mad Men' stars nab THR Award
Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss honored at Cologne ConferenceCOLOGNE, Germany -- A dapper Jon Hamm and sexy-stylish Elisabeth Moss picked up the third annual Hollywood Reporter Award on Friday, in honor of their work on AMC's "Mad Men."
After watching themselves dubbed in German in a clip from "Mad Men" airing on pay-TV network FOX in Germany, Hamm and Moss accepted their trophies from THR International Executive Director Tommaso Campione.
"It was the first time we'd seen ourselves dubbed like that, it was pretty funny," Hamm told THR. "It is amazing how the show is now reaching out internationally. It seems incredible that something that seems so specific to a particular time and place in America -- a New York ad agency in the early '60s -- can reach an international audience."
"Mad Men" has become a cult hit in the English-speaking world -- on CTV in Canada, BBC 4 in the U.K. and SBS in Australia -- but the series is only just starting to crack continental Europe. FOX kicks off the second season of "Mad Men" on German pay-TV on -Oct. 3. But a much larger audience could come from digital channel ZDFNeo, which has snatched free-TV rights and will bow the series on Oct. 6.
From Cologne, Hamm and Moss head to MIPCOM in Cannes, where they will be promoting "Mad Men" to international buyers on behalf of producers, and world sales agent Lionsgate Television.
