Madonna Concert Film to Premiere on EPIX
A concert film of Madonna’s MDNA tour will premiere on EPIX on June 22 at 8 p.m. EST.
Although it was shot over the span of Madonna’s 88-stop global trek last year, primary footage was taken from her Miami stop in November 2011.
The film was directed by Stephane Sennour and Danny Tull, who previously worked with Madonna on the movie W.E., which she directed, as well as various other live performance films.
The concert includes performances of several of Madonna’s biggest hits, including “Vogue,” “Like A Prayer” and "Hung Up,” as well as tracks from the MDNA album, including single “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” “Girl Gone Wild,” “Gang Bang” and “Turn Up the Radio.” The tour production included 27 dancers -- among them, her son Rocco -- seven band members and a total of 1,500 costumes, according to Madonna’s website.
“My show is a journey,” Madonna said of the tour. “The journey of a soul from darkness to light. It is part cinematic musical theater -- part spectacle and sometimes intimate performance art. It is a journey from anger to love and from chaos to order. There are good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point. Sometimes I play both. It must be watched with an open heart from beginning to end. I am sure if it is viewed this way, you will walk away feeling inspired, invigorated and will want to make the world a better place.”
“Madonna’s stunning musical performance and show-stopping moves continue to prove that she is truly a timeless entertainer,” EPIX CEO and president Mark Greenberg said in announcing the broadcast. “We launched the EPIX network with Madonna’s previous tour, Sticky and Sweet, premiering the concert the first night that EPIX was on air. We are very excited to have her back on the network.”
