With a husband who is one of Hollywood's A-list publicists, you'd think Matt Bomer would receive free advice. Yet the actor -- whose presence on a surprise Magic Mike XXL float with Channing Tatum drew cheers at L.A.'s June 14 Pride Parade -- says Slate PR's Simon Halls doesn't get in his business.
"We're pretty good about separating church and state," says Bomer, who is repped by Viewpoint. "Like any partner in any relationship, I seek counsel, but I have my own publicist. We have three kids under age 10, so we don't have time to talk about [work]. We're more concerned with making sure lunches are made and everyone gets to school on time." Bomer, however, could easily rep Halls, who works with Tom Ford and Frances McDormand: "I married up. He's an intelligent and kind soul."
Golden Globe winner Bomer is best known for his work on such projects as The Normal Heart, White Collar and American Horror Story. He has a pair of anticipated upcoming projects with the lead role in a Montgomery Clift biopic followed by the Magnificent Seven remake. THR caught up with Bomer at the 20th anniversary Taste for a Cure, benefiting UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center on May 1.
Meanwhile, Magic Mike XXL arrives in theaters on July 1. It's the follow-up to the 2012 breakout pic and is directed by Gregory Jacobs. Tatum and Bomer star alongside Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash and Adam Rodriguez.
