The dark comedy has Todd, played by Labine, eyeing perfection at the family cottage where he plans to propose to Cammie (Akerman). But best-laid plans come undone when Todd’s slacker brother, played by Daniel Petronijevic, arrives with his free-spirited girlfriend in a role performed by Lucy Punch.
Cottage Country marks a return to feature filmmaking for Wellington, an accomplished Canadian TV director who has ABC's Rookie Blue, Queer As Folk and The Eleventh Hour among his credits. The theatrical feature is shooting in Toronto and Muskoka, Ontario through October 27, ahead of a 2012 release by Alliance Films.

Cottage Country was written by Jeremy Boxen (Lost Girl, Endgame) and is produced by Frank Siracusa, who also executive produces with Paul Gross. The project also marks a first-time movie collaboration between Siracusa and Whizbang Films.
Siracusa previously produced features like the First World War drama Passchendaele and Hobo With a Shotgun with rival producer Rhombus Media, and more recently worked with Bollywood producer Ajay Virmani and Canadian producer Don Carmody on the Indo-Canadian comedy Breakaway, which co-stars Rob Lowe.
Luc Montpellier is the DOP on Cottage Country, with production design by Phillip Barker and editing by Christopher Donaldson.
Casting was done by Libby Goldstein in Los Angeles and Lisa Parasyn Casting in Toronto.
