Man Loses Fingertips on Disney World's 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Ride

A British tourist was maimed on the popular Disney World attraction, but the cause remains unclear.

A tourist lost the tips of his fingers during an accident on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Bay Lake, Fla.

According to Orlando’s CBS affiliate, WKMG, the man lost the tips of the ring and pinky fingers on his right hand Thursday during the course of the ride.

A Reedy Creek Fire Department spokesman said the victim was an adult male from the United Kingdom, but no details have been released about what caused the injury.

Park officials promptly closed the attraction to investigate the incident. The ride was reopened later when they confirmed that it met all safety regulations and that the equipment was functioning properly.

The man was taken to a local hospital to be treated, but additional information about his condition has not been released.
