Mandalay Sports Media Partners With La Costa Film Festival

The La Costa Film Festival has partnered with Mandalay Sports Media to help curate the festival’s sports-themed narrative and documentary program, as well as expand its reach to filmmakers and distributors.

The newly formed collaboration allows the festival – set to take place at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa from Sept. 18-21 – to continue to showcase features, documentaries, shorts and local filmmakers of all genres while working with MSM and its co-chairman, Mike Tollin, to attract sports-related films and the filmmakers behind the movies.

La Costa Film Festival co-founders Michael and Ruby Callihan said, “After a tremendously successful inaugural run in 2013, we looked for ways to expand our reach that would reflect in our program and acknowledge this area’s love of sport. Our partnership with Mandalay Sports Media allows us to take a quantum leap in attracting the highest quality of sports-themed features and documentaries through their vast resources throughout the entertainment and sports communities.”

Added Tollin: “This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the best in sports films from past and present and to honor those filmmakers responsible for memorable and ground-breaking work. We also intend to curate a series of workshops and panel discussions highlighting sports-related issues in our lives. We hope to make this an increasingly attractive destination for sports and film fans alike.”

Meanwhile, the deadline for festival submission is Thursday, July 3. Applicants can submit via Without a Box in categories including Sports Features (narrative and documentary) Short Juried Competition, Narrative Features, Documentaries, Short Film Showcase, as well as Local San Diego Filmmakers and North San Diego County High School Student Short Film Competition.

An opening-night gala kicks off the festival with a red carpet and outdoor screening. More information about the second annual event can be found at www.lacostafilmfestival.org.
