Maple makes distribution deal with Miramax
Will handle all the U.S. studio's titles in CanadaTORONTO -- Miramax has a new distributor in Canada.
Canadian distributor Maple Pictures Monday unveiled a distribution pact with the U.S. studio, which ended its longstanding relationship with Alliance Films late last year.
Laurie May, co-director of Toronto-based Maple, said that the new multiyear, multiplatform agreement calls for Maple to handle all Miramax titles in Canada.
Maple, which already releases Lionsgate and Gold Circle Films products here, released Miramax's "Brideshead Revisited" in Canadian theaters earlier this year and helped launch the studio's Mike Leigh comedy "Happy-Go-Lucky" at the Toronto International Film Festival.
That partnership led to speculation that Miramax planned to choose Maple as its new Canadian distribution partner.
Upcoming Miramax titles that Maple will release include John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt" and "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas," written and directed by Mark Herman.
