Maple Pictures dips into 'Pontypool'

Picks up Canadian rights to zombie pic

TORONTO -- Maple Pictures has picked up Canadian distribution rights to Bruce McDonald's zombie picture "Pontypool" ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The psychological thriller, which portrays a deadly virus infecting a small Ontario town, stars Stephen McHattie ("300") and is the director's first film since the Ellen Page starrer "The Tracey Fragments."

The pact was negotiated by John Bain and Brad Pelman for Maple Pictures and the Canadian film's producers, Ambrose Roche and J. Miles Dale.
